English Language and Literature
The English Language and Literature tuition is designed to offer high school (secondary) students, who are currently strong in math and science, the opportunity to develop advanced English language abilities. Four aspects of English will be improved according to American conventions: reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar.
Improved Reading
Sentence and paragraph comprehension, understanding scope, tone, and the author's main point, analyzing fiction and non-fiction writing.
Better Writing
Composition and essay structure, developing a thesis, creating concrete examples to support the thesis.
Knowledge of Proper Grammar
Sentence structure and grammar usage in writing, understanding commonly tested grammar rules and identifying grammar errors (idioms, modifiers, pronouns, subject-verb agreement, comparisons, verb tense, sentence construction).
Wider Vocabulary
Greek and Latin root words, using context clues to determine meaning, general vocabulary building.
Fun Student Projects
Since the English Language and Literature tuition is structured around learning projects, such as writing an autobiography and self-publishing a collection of short stories, parents will have tangible products of their children's learning as well as intellectual keepsakes.
SAT, TOEFL, and IELTS Skills
An additional benefit of this program is that it will also develop the long-term skills necessary to successfully complete the TOEFL, Test of English as a Foreign Language. The TOEFL is a requirement for UAE universities for which English is the language of instruction as well as universities in the US, Canada, UK, Europe, and Australia.
